The Stepping Stones Foundation (Stepping Stones - Historic Home of Bill & Lois Wilson) in Katonah, New York, is a standalone, nonprofit, tax-exempt organization (Federal I.D. # 13-3031164) that fosters public understanding of alcoholism and inspires recovery by preserving and sharing the historic home, archive, and legacy of Alcoholics Anonymous Cofounder Bill Wilson and Al-Anon Family Groups Cofounder Lois Wilson. The privately-run National Historic Landmark welcomes donations of any amount. The Foundation preserves and shares 10,000 objects, 100,000 manuscripts, 8.17 acres, 6 structures, an online archive, and on-site, online, and off-site tours and programs. Stepping Stones is the major repository of the biographical material of the Wilsons, including 7500 photographs. The organization continues to collect manuscripts, digital material, and artifacts related to the Wilsons and their close circle of friends.
Bill W. was listed in Time and Life magazines as one of the 100 influentials of the last century for his writing of the 12-Step recovery program and cofounding of A.A. Due to Lois' work as cofounder of Al-Anon Family Groups and cofounder of The Stepping Stones Foundation, the historic site is on the NY Women's Heritage Trail.
